PE #6 A truss system dangles a crate of gator bait above a couple of hungry alligators. Each truss element can support up to 1000 lb of force (either tensile or compressive).A.) Identify all zero-force members.B.) For what weight W does the truss system fail? Specifically, which elements fail? Does it fail due to compression or tension?

Let weight is ‘W’ for which any member fail. Now the trick here is to solve the truss and get the
maximum load ca
ying member and equating that to 1000 lb we can find the value of weight W.
To solve the truss we will first find out the reaction at the two supports
At point F there is rolling support so only vertical reaction will be there
At point B there will be both horizontal and vertical reaction
To find out the reaction taking about the moment at B =0
(W*8-RF(y)*4) =0
RF(y) = 2W
Now balancing the forces in Y direction we get
RB (y) +RF (y) – W = 0
So, RB (y) = -W
Therefore at B reaction will be acting vertically downwards.
Now since there is no any external force in X-direction. Therefore RB (x) = 0
a) To find out the Zero-force members we will solve the truss. I am using joint method to solve
it.
Starting with joint ‘I’
Since there is no external forces...
