The Kaiser Permanente is an organisation that performs integrated health care function. It was founded by J.Kaiser and Sidney Garfield in 1945 and currently has its base in Oakland, California. It forms one of the biggest managed health care organisations in the US that includes association with other three groups that include Kaiser Foundation Hospitals and the Permanente Medical Groups (Ebrary, 2000).
Kaiser Permanente currently is considered the largest Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) that owns and operates its own refurbished outpatient clinics. It provides its patients with health care cards that they can use at the hospital or any healthcare institution. It includes a health plan that is operated under the state, as a non profit tax status. The institution has been growing running its operations in over nine states ensuring it covers the eight major regions in the United States (Ebrary, 2000).
Admission of Patients at Kaiser Permanente
Admission of Patients at Kaiser Permanente follows a simple set of guidelines. Firstly, one can make a pre-admission request by phoning the admission department. This is mostly done before the patient has arrived at the hospital and this will ensure a smooth process of admission for the patient. The admission department will have the medical records and charts ready for the patients when they arrive. Forms will also be retrieved and ready for the patient to fill. Admission is also done by one visiting the admission department on the hospital lobby at the 250 hospital parkway. To ensure complete admission one is to provide accurate information by filling the admission form and returning it to the admission department (Kemper et al., 1997).
