PART ONE: Analyze Photo
Read in SMG chapter 28: Analyzing Visuals XXXXXXXXXXPay particular attention to the Criteria for Analyzing Visuals on pages XXXXXXXXXX, and how the sample student completed the criteria for his chosen photo (SMG pages XXXXXXXXXXand wrote his essay (SMG XXXXXXXXXX).
Put the name of the photo in the subject box. Then, using the criteria in SMG XXXXXXXXXXas they apply, students will examine the key components and historical contexts of the photo:
Composition, people or image, scene, words, and tone.
Rhetorical context, social context, historical context, and intertextuality.

PART TWO: Essay

In addition, consider the photo topic’s lingering legacy. Use the Criteria for Analyzing Visuals such as the example in the text XXXXXXXXXXwritten about the photo Emerging Man. Fill it out for your chosen photo as a basis of examining the photo and providing necessary information from research for the essay. See how the sample student essays addressed their photos.
