Introduction
Though the compassionate care provided by the nurses helps them attain higher satisfaction, there are multiple factors which influence the changes in nursing practice (Arman & Hok, 2016). The observations of the care environment at my workplace provided me valuable opportunity to understand the care delivery with the care providers’ perspective. Effective Workplace Culture requires a combination of care at individual and organizational level. The nurses work for the hospital and the patients abiding to the regulations and standards of the Nursing care. The interests of the Nurses should also be cared by the Hospitals and the government to maintain the process of development ongoing. In this paper, I will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the development in nursing practice, within my care setting.
My Specialty Area of Practice
My Area of Specialty was Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in a Primary Care Setting at one of the most reputed hospitals of Nepal from 2014 to 2018. The CNS are graduate level specialist Nurses providing patient centered and consultation services at multiple care settings (National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist, 2019). They can undertake effective role in improving the implementation quality healthcare services. This designation provides primary care and specialist services to diverse range of patients. I obtained the specialty of CNS after completion of 3 Year Certification Program Which is regulated by government body offering vocational training.
Analysis of Cu
ent Caring Culture using Effective Workplace Culture Framework
During my experience of work in Norvic International Hospital near Kathmandu, I found that it was a multispecialty hospital with wide range of patients from different cultural backgrounds and qualifications. There were many clinical Nurse Specialists and General Practitioners. On daily basis the hospital served several inpatients and outpatients. While delivery of care, compassionate care was a central part of the care imparted.
As a part of Effective Workplace Culture Framework, the assignment will discuss the essential attributes persistent in the care setting, the enabling factors and the consequences.
(a) Essential Attributes
Person Centered Care: The care needs to be responsive and respectful for the social context, individual culture and the specific needs of the patients. The Hospital considered patient centered care to actively involve the patients in their own care. Nurses had to listen the patients with patience and address their requirements effectively. This collaborative system increased the staff productivity, enhanced the patient satisfaction, higher productivity and morale of the staff and lowering down of cost of care. The goals and vision of the institute aligned with the goals of patient centered care. We encouraged the presence of family members in the patient care. They were an integral part of the care process and took part in all the decisions related to patient.
Life Long Learning: The environment of the care setting provided an opportunity to learn and improve my clinical skills. The patients from diverse cultural backgrounds like that of Indigenous Australians provided great opportunity to improve the healthcare delivery to suit their specific needs. The night shift was a
anged with one newcomer and one experienced Nurse to provide vast environment for the newcomers to understand and practice.
High Support and High Challenge: The changing roles of nurses in transformational healthcare are regularly driven by access problems, suboptimal outcomes, unsustainable costs and disparities. The exceptional growth in the cost of healthcare without effective change in health outcomes and quality drive the system towards the transformation (Blomberg, Griffiths, Wengstrom, May & Bridges, 2016). The other waste services like excessive administration costs, inflated prices, fraud, prevention of failures etc also contribute to this. Changing demographics and ageing populations make the condition even worse. All these challenges demand greater education standards and nursing skills in the nursing professionals.
