Scenario
Mark & Horton tax accountants have opened a new office in Melbourne, Australia. They are
committed to providing taxation and financial planning services to both individuals and small
Cu
ently they have the following staff members:
 Four (4) full-time tax accountants (Full Time)
 Two (2) junior accountants (Full Time)
 Two (2) receptionists (Full Time)
 Two (2) financial advisors (Part Time – Two days/week)
All the workstations being in workgroup environment have caused a few concerns for the company
mainly:
 security
 retrieval of client information from individual staff computers and
 accessibility of information
Assume that you have been hired to provide advice and help in the installation and configuration of
an appropriate operating system that will satisfy the needs of the company. Perform the following
tasks to support this.

following as evidence:
o Take a screenshot of the File Explorer interface to show the content of “Y” drive
o Take screenshots of the creation of a new file, updating an existing file and deletion
of new or existing files respectively.
Task 9
You need to perform this task on Windows 10 virtual machine:
 Log on using Julie Mann’s user account
 Map the shared Data folder as “L” drive.
 You need to test the permission settings that you configured in Task 6 and provide the
following as evidence:
o Take a screenshot of the File Explorer interface to show the content of “L” drive
o Take screenshots of sub-folder creation, updating an existing file and deletion
of
existing file respectively.
Task 10
Explain the following: (No screenshot required in this Task).
 Four main functions of an operating system
 The purpose of utility software such as “Task Manager”.
 A list of Windows server roles. e.g., ADFS, Certificate services. Pick one of your choice
and research about their use cases, integration with AD DS.
Ensure that all responses are in your own words and references are provided.
When you have completed, submit the solutions to these tasks. You should submit the following:
 Submit your answers and screenshots to the relevant tasks in a single Word document called

OPERATING SYSTEM REPORT
Task 1 :
Task 2: The advantages are listed below:
Easy to manage and control
Because servers are installed on a domain-based environment and these servers give comprehensive controls such as computer software upgrades, to regulate access to computers, managing and controlling a domain-based environment is simple and straightforward. By using a domain, administrators are able to make changes to the network more quickly by utilizing servers. These modifications may include access control lists and permissions. On any of the locally based PCs, updates and adjustments may be done with relative ease. Although the Team-based facility does not deliver these services adequately since no dedicated computer is accessible in the working group to oversee and control all the performance of other machines.
Tens of thousands of personal PCs
Domain-based location allows access to and control over thousands of machines in the network, and servers may supply all of the resources required by any computer connected to the network. As a consequence of this, the domain-based environment has a future and will contribute to the continued growth of networks in the future. On the other hand, the group of people working on the project does not support several computers. As a result, the location-based organisation does not endorse the continuation of the network's growth in the future. ("The Purpose of Workgroups Compared to Domains", 2022)
Different rules apply to local networks
Additionally supporting computer performance on diverse local networks is the domain-based environment. This means that computers on various local networks may utilize server resources in a domain-based environment, which is safe and secure. In a peer-to-peer network, computers are linked to one another for collaboration purposes. A control computer is not present in the group-based group.
("AD server vs. Domain Controller vs. Member Server , et al.", 2022)
Resources that have been split up (Distributed Resources)
The domain-based environment allows distributed resources, where the server may deliver a number of services, such as printers, members, software and processing services, to linked PCs.. Using this method, all of the files may be controlled from a single place on the server or from a site that is based on the server. However, a work-based location does not allow for dispersed resources or centralized data storage.
