Section #4                                 [45 %]
4.1 Fill the data in the below table, follow these set of instructions:
a. Input total count of student numbers at random from the following range [200-650]
. Calculate 2018 predicted numbers using following method: 12% increase from the mean student numbers for all three previous years.
c. Calculate the Range for the number of enrolled students for all 4 years.
d. Draw an appropriate graph and comment on the data, highlighting any significant changes.
e. The number of students enrolled in the ‘Under 25’ category has increased by 15% between 2014 and 2015. Calculate how many students were in the ‘Under 25’ category in 2014.
f. Calculate the percentage change for the ‘Over 35’ category between 2016 and 2017.
g. There were 20% more females than males in 2016 under ’25-35’ category. How many male students were enrolled in the same year and category?
h. What is the ratio of total students in ‘Under 25’ category to the total population for 2017? Write your answer in a simplest form.

    2015
    2016
    2017
    2018 (Predicted)
    Under 25

4.3 You decided to record number of times the bus was late during your morning commute. The table below shows the time (t) the bus you usually take, was late over the 20-day period. You are required to fill in the frequency and the calculate following:
    Time (t) in minutes
    Frequency
     XXXXXXXXXX0 ≤ t< 5

    5 ≤ t < 10

    10 ≤ t < 15

    15 ≤ t < 20

a) Fill in the frequency information, make sure frequency adds up to the total recorded experiment(n=20).
) Estimate average number of minutes your bus was late.
c) Estimate what would be the Median for the above data.

Section 1 :- Skills Audit
1.Choose any number between 30 and 100. Can you create at least two different number sentences that equal to this number? (for example :
You must use at least three separate operations.
Ans.
45
i. 8 + 8- 3 = 45
ii. 32 + 9 = 45
2. Choose any two fractions with different denominators (e.g .Which one is larger? Show your calculations, do not convert them as decimals or percentages.
Ans.
, :LCM of 7 and 5 = 35
Converting to equivalent fractions :- 9/7= 45/35 and 2/5= 14/35
∵ 45/35 > 14/35 ∴ 9/7 is greater than 2/5
3. Convert both fractions you have used above into decimal and percentages.
For 9/7,
Decimal = 1.285 ; Percentage = 9/7 * 100 = 128.5%
For 2/5,
Decimal = 0.4 : Percentage = 2/5 * 100 = 40%
4. Provide one real life example for each of the following
>Percentage increase
>Percentage decrease
> Percentage change
Show step by step calculations for each of your examples(questions)
Ans.
Percentage Increase :-
In August, Audra worked a total of 35 hours, in September she worked 45.5 hours – by what percentage did Audra’s working hours increase in September?
Solution.
Difference between the no. of hours worked = 45.5-35 = 10.5
% Increase = 10.5/35 *100 = 30%
Thus, Audra’s working hours increased by 30% from August to September.
Percentage decrease :-
The price of a dozen eggs was $2.29, but is now $2.09. What is the percent decrease?
Solution.
Difference between the prices = $(2.29-2.09) = $ 0.20
% Decrease = 0.20/2.29 * 100 = 8.73%
Percentage change :-
The price of oil decreased from $54 per ba
el to $50 per ba
el. What is the percent decrease in oil prices?
Solution.
Difference between the prices = $(54-50) = $ 4
Percent change = 4/54 *100 = 7.4%
Thus, the price of oil decreased by 7.4%.
5. Give one real- world example(question) of reverse percentages and show your calculations to find the answer?
Ans. A TV costs $350 after a 25% discount. Find out the original price of the TV.
Solution.
Let the original cost of the the TV be $100.
∴ the cost after a discount of 25% = $100- $25 = $75
Thus, the original price of the TV = 350 ÷ 75/100 =$466.67
6. Give one real- world examples each (question) of Direct and Indirect Proportions and show your calculations to find the answer?
Ans. Direct proportion :-
The circumference c of a circle is directly proportional to its diameter d.
We know, Circumference of a circle (C) = 2πr [r is the radius of the circe]
∴ C = πd [Diameter( d)=2r]
∵ π is constant
∴ C ∝ d
Eg.,
Let thediameter of circle A be d cm . How does the circumference change If the diameter is doubled or quadrupled?
For circle A, diameter(d1) = 4 cm
∴ Circumference (C1) = dπ cm
When diameter is doubled, diameter(d2) = 2d cm
∴ Circumference (C2) = (2d)π cm = 2(dπ) cm = 2C1
When diameter is quadrupled, diameter(d3) = 4d cm
∴ Circumference (C3) = (4d)π cm = 4(dπ) cm = 4C1
Thus, when the diameter of the circle is doubled or quadrupled, the circumference also gets doubled and quadrupled respectively.
Indirect proportion :-
Speed and travel time are Inversely Proportional because the...
