Now that you've had several weeks of practice framing historical questions and finding sources it's time to start working on your final project officially.

The first step is finding a topic, developing a question, and gathering sources. For this part of the project you will create a bibliography. For your topic you can choose anything you want that falls within the scope of the course (anything from prehistory to around 1600AD).

Instructions

  • Choose a topic and then develop a research question. Your question will be the title of your bibliography.

  • Using the tools and websites from the previous modules find five (5) sources:

    • Three of them must be primary sources

    • One must be a secondary source (most likely a book of some kind)

      • Hint: Each chapter of your textbook has a "Further Reading" section that might provide some help.

    • One must be a journal article

  • Present your bibliography using Chicago Style, including

    • listing entries alphabetically by author last name

    • Indent each line after the first for every entry.

Grading

This portion of the project is worth 15 points:

  • The question is worth up to 5 points. Points will be deducted for the question being too vague, too narrow, non-historical, etc.

  • Each bibliography entry is worth 2 points. Points will be deducted for being irrelevant, non-authoritative, or failing to properly follow Chicago style.

    • Note - List your secondary source as a book, not as a website (even if you found the entire book online). Likewise for your journal article. Use the journal article format, not the website format. An article being made available online is not the same as an article that was initially published to a web page.
