Audience/Context:
As a Healthcare Manager/Director/Provider you want to have a good understanding of leadership theory. You will also want to be able to analyze leaders (and yourself) in how you can apply that theory to relationships you have with others in the workplace.
Why is this assignment important?
Healthcare Managers/Directors/Providers often pay little attention to formal theory. Theoretical frameworks can help leaders know how to manage other leaders whose style may differ from their own. This assignment will help you utilize this skill with a leader that you have observed in the past and help you analyze their actions with a known leadership theory. This written exercise is to be regarded as vital preparation and practice for Leadership in Health Care Systems Master’s Degree, DNP Degree, and CNL Degree.
What is the task?
The purpose of the written assignment is to apply theoretical framework and content to practical application and to practice cohesive and clear written communication skills. Students will choose one leadership theory and demonstrate their understanding of that leadership theory through applying it to an observed leadership example. The example can be pulled from the students precepted field experience, the students current work environment, or a past work situation. A thorough application and analysis is expected.
How should I complete the task?
1. Identify a leadership theory that you will be writing about.
2. Identify the leadership example that you will be applying the theory to.
3. Review own DISC profile to identify personal attributes that you can analyze as part of your theory/leadership example
4. Use the basic outline below to organize your paper.
5. Consult the rubric for an explanation of the criteria that will be used for grading this assignment.
