Healthcare Managers/Directors/Providers often pay little attention to formal theory. Theoretical frameworks can help leaders know how to manage other leaders whose style may differ from their own. This assignment will help you utilize this skill with a leader that you have observed in the past and help you analyze their actions with a known leadership theory. This written exercise is to be regarded as vital preparation and practice for Leadership in Health Care Systems Master’s Degree, DNP Degree, and CNL Degree.

What is the task?

The purpose of the written assignment is to apply theoretical framework and content to practical application and to practice cohesive and clear written communication skills. Leadership is the term given to the action of a person while leading a given situation in the most efficient way to attain a positive outcome. A person who can face challenges, give solutions, take action promptly, and guide others to do the same is considered to be a leader. This needs experience, knowledge in the related area, positive attitude, dedication and skills. Leadership in any profession should have a deep understanding of their professional, ethical and emotional behavior with employees and other subordinates. (Ha

Nursing is a profession in healthcare, which provides both financial and personal value to a person. To excel in a field and reach to the peak of their professional hierarchy, one needs to understand and value the profession. This means that they have to respect their duties and be sincere enough to take care of their responsibilities. In the sector of nursing, the professionals need to strengthen their ethical foundation, acquire adequate knowledge, develop skills, and create professional infrastructure (Park, 2015)
2. Leadership theory
The phenomenon of leadership is not simple and it is multi-dimensional. The researchers say that there is as such no definition of leadership until the present. Leadership does not only define a position at the highest hierarchy or a person with highest economic status. It is defined by the individual attitude, the reliability of the person and his way of tackling a situation. However, from decades of studies, there have been many discussions and hypothesis upon the co
ect definition of leadership. Some of the theories define leadership with factual information and some with experience and observations. All these theories are still in use for theoretical and practical application when and where it is necessary to define a person to be a leader (Kumar & Khiljee, 2016).
The oldest theories of all is the Great Man theory of 1840. According to this, leaders are not made but they are born. The leadership quality according to this theory is intrinsic. Further, Trait Theory (1930 to 1940) of leadership says that leaders can be born or made. They are the persons who has the qualities of intelligence, responsibility and creativity. The third theory is Behavioral Theory of leadership. According to this, a person or a leader is observed based on his behavior or conduct towards people or task.
This theory says that leaders are not born and they are rather made. Transactional theory of leadership shows the relationship between leaders and their followers. It says that when harmony and mutual understanding between the leader and followers is there, goals can be easily achieved. The other one is transformational theory in which it is stated that a person who may or may not be a leader can influence a number of people through his action, behaviors and communication skills. They can get the trust of many people and they are thus considered to be a leader by these people (Fischer, 2016).
All the above theories are applicable in every aspect of society. Leaders can be in all the levels of a profession. It can be management, administration, healthcare, physicians, in fact housekeeping. When a person takes his job to the best of his ability and be a role model to others, he or she is considered as a leader. A leader should have the qualities of integrity, mentoring, seeking, influencing and inspiring others, very well good communication, professionally social, and critical thinking (Lussier & Achua, 2015). Some of the challenges that are faced by leaders are finding quality staff, building and uniting a team and acquiring resources.
