In order to highlight the topic we are going to discuss today, I have a small activity for you, please participate enthusiastically. What I want you to do is, I want you to write down the names of the social media platforms you use actively in the order of the most used on the paper provided. Three will be enough. After that, next to the name of the media, please write down the time you think you spend on that platform. You don’t have to be accurate, a rough estimate would do. Please do not share your results with your seated neighbours. I will give you two minutes for this activity.

We are living in an age where everything has taken a digital form, even society. This roughly explains the concept that we are going to discuss today and that is social media. So what exactly is social media? The immediate answer that comes to most of us is “Facebook, Twitter…” but how do we define it? That is a difficult question. That’s because social media is not actually a thing that exists physically and thus a concept difficult to explain. 
Let’s make an attempt to define social media in three sentences anyway. 
Social media is a kind of society. 
It is virtual with no physical existence. 
It helps us connect with the world.
That pretty much sums what social media is.
