Read Robert Jago's article "The Need to Protect Free Speech on First Nations Reserves" (https:
thewalrus.ca/the-need-to-protect-free-speech-on-first-nations-reserves/) and analyze how Jago uses logical, emotional, and/or ethical appeals to support one of his claims.
For guidance on how to complete this assignment, follow the steps in the document "Writing Analysis Paragraphs that Evaluate Rhetoric" in Module Six. (click here for a link).
Your submission should be one paragraph of approximately 300 words.
Here is an outline of that one paragraph:
1. Open the paragraph by paraphrasing (restating in your own words) one of the author’s specific claims, including the claim’s paragraph number in parentheses at the end of your restatement, for reference to the article.
2. Develop the paragraph by explaining what kinds of logical (Module Three), emotional (Module Five), and/or ethical (Module Six) appeals are used in the support for the specified claim.
3. Complete the paragraph by examining how Jago’s particular strategies succeed and/or fail to persuade his audience in terms of establishing the reasonableness of his claim, promoting an appropriate emotional response to his claim, and/or showcasing his credibility in relation to his claim
Ensure that your analysis adheres to the criteria in the Marking Ru
ic (see the right-hand side of the screen).
Submit your paragraph as a Word or pdf document by 11:59pm Toronto time on March 13.
