Question
Fritzell & Ritakallio XXXXXXXXXXnote that the beginning of the 21st century, after a hundred years of effort, the question of poverty is still the most central issue of the social dimension of Europe (Atkinson et al., 2002), irrespective of country, and where there is no sign that this problem will be overcome in the foreseeable future. New social risks, such as changes in the family and in the labour market, have emerged to challenge the traditional welfare institutions (ibd). At the same time, most Western countries have witnessed a halt in the century-old efforts to strengthen welfare institutions. For instance, welfare state retrenchment has been the keyword of the period given the perennial economic recession. Indeed comparative studies of inequality and poverty have shown a generally greater income inequality and increase in poverty in most Western countries during the same period (ibid).
What is the future of poverty eradication if widening gaps seem to the norm in this day and age of globalization and rapid development?

many countries. For example, rising inequality UK in terms of income and facilities is also a
matter of concern. There are two contradictory views present on the role of globalization and
development in poverty and inequality eradication. On group of economist believes that
globalization has not promoted poverty in the region; another group believes that
globalization is as good for the rich but it is equally bad for the poor. There is wide income
gap between rich and the poor that is impacting the global economy adversely.
Globalization is a process through which market becomes borderless and open, organizations
can operate on international market easily, however regulation become complex and difficult.
