Multiple Performance Measurement Standards
Read the following article:
Safavi, K. S XXXXXXXXXXThe measurement conundrum. Journal of Healthcare Management, 51(5), 287–290.
In the article, Safavi XXXXXXXXXXasks: “Is the goal to establish relative rank or absolute levels of performance” (p. 290)? The author also states that the basic dilemma in selecting a measurement system is whether “to judge performance from the outside or to improve performance from the inside” (Safavi, 2006, p. 287).
Discuss the following from the perspective of a provider:

  • If the measurement system is intended to judge performance from the outside, discuss the pros and cons of using a standard based on relative rank instead of absolute levels of performance.
  • If the measurement system is intended to improve performance from the inside, discuss the pros and cons of using a standard based on relative rank instead of absolute levels of performance.
Consider how different circumstances will impact the performance measurement. If it’s based on relative rank, who is the peer group—a multi-facility organization, a state or national standard? If it’s based on absolute value, are there circumstances that may be beyond the facility’s control?
Present the analysis as a 2-page Word document formatted in APA style. Do not copy the information directly from the web.

Multiple Performance Measurement Standards
To ensure that employees are always productive and offer quality work, organisations have to come up with ways of measuring their work performance level. This assists in identifying the poor performers from the active performance. Among the performance measurement methods are the use of absolute ranking methods and the relative ranking methods.
Judging Performance from the Outside
Pros
Using relative ranking method to judge performance, differences are displayed in the outputs of the data being measured. However, the differences are reflected in the intention behind the development of the data inputs and the descriptive labels. In addition, the use of relative ranking shows that performance can be judged accurately since it will involve comparisons being made between the employees using same criteria.
Moreover, the use of relative ranking to pass judgement allows comparisons to be made before judgment is passed, unlike if absolute ranking was used. This means that assessing the performance of all employees will be made hence making it possible to offer a fair judgement. Finally,...
