Discussion:
1. Atherosclerosis causes the accumulation of lipids in the walls of the arteries. This patient has a history of atherosclerosis disease. The deposition of cholesterol in the arterial walls obstructs the flow of blood to the legs and the other organs of the body like heart (Olin & Sealove, 2010). Thus due to an obstruction in the flow of blood to the legs, the patient feels pain in the legs as sufficient oxygen does not reach the leg muscles and heart muscles (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2022) (Olin & Sealove, 2010). The metabolism in the heart muscles and leg muscles gets altered due to an insufficient supply of oxygen. The essential and predisposing factors leading to the occu
ence of atherosclerosis are defects in the metabolism of lipids in the body, excessive smoking of cigarettes, alcohol, and intake of food items containing excessive amounts of lipids. Further, this patient is also suffering from overweight problems due to the accumulation of fats in the different organs of the body (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2022) (Olin & Sealove, 2010). Further the patient is also suffering from pain in the legs due to the insufficient supply of the blood to the different organs of the body.
2. The pathophysiology, signs, and symptoms of atherosclerosis include a feeling of fatigue, weakness, and pain in the leg muscles. Further, the patient feels giddy with lethargy as the amount of oxygen supplied to the leg muscles is less. Further, the supply of blood to the leg muscles is hindered and the patient is not able to move properly from one place to another (National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, 2022). The other signs and symptoms include difficulty in
eathing, tingling, and numbness in the facial muscles, headache, and dizziness. The patient has a high pain score, the systolic blood pressure is high, diastolic blood pressure is low and this patient is suffering from obstruction of the bowels in the morning with severe pain (Mayo Clinic, 2022). Further, the patient may also suffer from kidney disease along with heart ailments leading to swelling in hands and legs with lethargic feeling (Mayo Clinic, 2022).
3. There are different treatments available for treating atherosclerosis disease. Some of the main types of treatment available include the use of stent fitting after removing the fatty lipid plaques in the artery walls....
