MOD 2 Announcement
Posted on: Monday, March 11, XXXXXXXXXX:13:23 AM EDT
Hey Y'all:
Hope you are feeling increasingly more comfortable with the course "mechanics." It’s really pretty simple to move about the readings and assignments, but if you do run into a snag, let me know. For the MOD 2 Assignment, you will choose a target and I will provide the topic, and the topic for this Assignment is "diabetes." The target can be any population you choose, just address the topic of diabetes for that target population.
Second week of MOD 2. Respond to at least three of your peers with a substantive contribution by asking questions and/or adding additional insight and resources. Submit a 3- to 4-page paper (not including title page and references) that includes the following:
· Title page
· Health Belief Model
. In your own words, provide a
ief description of the Health Belief Model.
· Perceived Benefits and Perceived Ba
iers
. Using the constructs of perceived benefits and perceived ba
iers, describe the assigned health topic and how these constructs apply to your selected target group. Be specific and provide examples.
· Other Constructs
. Select two other constructs of your choice and describe how the constructs specifically apply to your target group and the assigned health topic. Be specific and provide examples.
· Summary of HBM
. Summarize the HBM and its application to your selected target and assigned health topic.
· APA formatted references
·
· This needs to be submitted by Day 7 week 3 (which is the 2nd week of MOD 2)
Have a great week and remember to meet the Discussion deadline for your Discussion posts. Be sure to make the final posts and the Assignment deadline. Have a great week as you prepare for one of the most important days of the year; St Patty's Day! LOL

Assignment: Applying the Health Belief Model to Populations
The Health Belief Model (HBM) has been used extensively to create effective health behavior change interventions and programs. The focus of the HBM is to describe how certain personal beliefs influence health behavior. Using the HBM constructs of perceived benefits, perceived ba
iers, perceived seriousness, perceived susceptibility, cues to action, modifying variables, and self-efficacy, you will apply the health belief model to a specific health topic.
For this Assignment, the topic will be assigned by your Instructor. However, you will select a target population from the populations provided in the Target Population document found in your Learning Resources.
To prepare:
· Review this module’s Resources.
· Visit the Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research’s Social and Behavioral Theories website to review the constructs of the Health Belief Model and complete Exercise 1.
· Review the topic assigned to you by your Instructor. Please be sure to contact your Instructor if you have any questions.
· Select one target population from the populations provided in the Target Population document found in your Learning Resources.
· Select at least three peer-reviewed, scholarly articles related to your assigned topic and target population.
Submit a 3- to 4-page paper (not including title page and references) that includes the following:
· Title page
· Health Belief Model
· In your own words, provide a
ief description of the Health Belief Model.
· Perceived Benefits and Perceived Ba
iers

Health Belief Model
Developed in early 1950s, the Health Belief Model (HBM) is a very
oad and widely used concept that provides a structural framework for the better understanding of health behavior and health related problems. Health Belief Model programs to prevent and detect diseases by means of several principles. As mentioned by Joseph, Ainsworth, Mathis, Hooker and Keller (2017), under social learning theory, a person is supposed to take a health related action, if they feel negative health condition, have a positive belief that by applying some measures, negative health conditions can be prevented, or believe that they can easily apply a certain measure successfully.
The reason of the negative health condition can be any disease. For example, by avoiding already used needles, sexually transmitted diseases can be prevented or the trust that, using sterilized needles, these conditions could be avoided. The four major concepts of HBM that are perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, perceived benefits, and perceived ba
iers, are based on person’s readiness towards an act (Borhaninejad et al., 2017). Rosenstock in 1988 further made an addition to these constructs with self-efficiency in order to make HBM a more suitable model that could be applied to any health problem.

Diabetes whether type 1 or type 2 is the most chronic metabolic disease spread worldwide. With a global mortality rate of 9%, this disease has affected almost 50% of global population and in the respect of African Americans; it is responsible for the expenditure of 15% of the total health budget (National Institutes of Health Office of Behavioral & Social Sciences Research, 2019). However, the self-efficiency concept of HBM introduced by Rosenstock is said to be a very influential factor for the control of this disease. As noted by Araban, Baharzadeh and Karimy (2017), self-care is scientific process that...
