MA618 Industry-based Capstone Project

Lasted Updated: July 2020
Assessment Task Description

You are required to complete the following assessment

The first stage of the progress report is known as ‘Industry Based Project’. The assessment is designed to
develop student’s knowledge, generic skills and graduate attributes that enhance job-readiness.

The progressive project report needs to demonstrate the development of the following stages for your
project:
 your project research and analysis;
 your team accountability and communication;
 each ‘Industry-Based Project’ is embedded in an industry relevant to your field of study;
 your research to date and justify your progress (you need to provide supporting evidence with
eferences to justify your progress);
 client and stakeholder relationship and management;
 analysis of cu
ent and future practices; and
 key insights of the project, company and industry.

Format of Progress Report 2

Your report is to be written to persuade the reader of the key message. The key message should address
the five marking criteria in the table stated below. Additionally the structure may be determined by the
individual lecturer and may vary considerably according to the task's purpose and audience. Below is
some guidance on the structure of a report.

Executive Summary
An executive summary is a succinct summary of a project’s why, what, who, how and when, presented in the
eginning of a report. By reading the executive summary, a reader should have a good grasp of the purpose
of the project, the key stakeholders, the criteria that is addressed, methods and data sources that are used,
the key challenges, solutions and recommendations, and proposed milestones or timeline of key deliverables.

Introduction
Business report introductions typically contain the following:
 Aim, scope and limitations
 Background or context (details of problem addressed)
 Overview of the project
ief
 May include the overall answer (suggested solution)
 The report structure

Body section
This is usually the longest section of the report and presents your findings based on the criteria that you
address, your analysis and the evidence you have gathered. These findings provide the justification for
your recommendation(s). This section needs to develop the material in a clear, logical and coherent
manner. Relevant subheadings make it easier for the reader to follow the structure. This structure should
eflect the structure outlined in the introduction.

The body section will contain different sections depending on the purpose. The following are typical
sections:
 Literature review: a critical analysis of the existing knowledge and cu
ent practices in published
materials, including scholarly papers, business and industry reports, news articles, statistical
analysis, opinion pieces, etc. This section provides the important backdrop that analyses your
issues or problem(s) and supports your approach to finding your solution(s).

 Methods: outlines how you went about collecting your information, why you chose this method
and a justification as to why it was the most appropriate method for your project.
 Originality, Innovation and Entrepreneurship: discusses and demonstrates your contribution in
developing original ideas and a novel approach that addresses customer needs and the evolving
usiness sector, industry or community environment. Shows how you would implement your
ideas for solving your project team issues, proposing a real potential product or service and how
these could benefit other customers, stakeholders, communities or industries.
 Results: conveys the results in a clear and concise manner, often using tables, graphs, charts
and other visual representation to summarise your findings and solutions. Detailed results and
calculations are placed in appendices at the end of the report. All tables, graphs, charts and
other visual representation must be contextualised and explained in the body text.
 Discussion: analyses and evaluates the results and leads toward the conclusion and
ecommendation/s. This section may outline any unexpected or new issues that need to be
considered and require further research or work in the future. Also, you may identify and discuss
any potential opportunities that your team uncovers in the project that could lead to potential
new business offerings in the future.

Conclusion
The conclusion states what has been found based on the evidence, analysis and evaluation that was presented
in the discussion. The conclusion should outline the key points/findings and state the recommendations that
follow from the analysis. In some reports it may be necessary to state any limitations to the research that
might affect the interpretation of the results. Most importantly the conclusion refers back to the overall
purpose of the report and emphasises the key message.

Introduction:
Cash flow statement is a very important part of the financial statement and it reveals important in formation to the external as well as internal stakeholders of an organization (Chang et al., 2014). There are a lot of challenges faced by an organization in gathering important information for the preparation and the cash flow management and forecasting to take important business decisions.
The aim of the project is to provide proper IT solutions to the client company in terms of the IT support packages, IT externalisation, IT collateral, IT acquirement, etc so that data mapping can be done properly so that the client organization can take informed decision. Scope of the project is to identify and analyse the business cash position at different intervals of the year that how much expenses are incu
ed, and revenues are earned on three basic activities. So here cash flow management will help business in identifying planning, monitoring, and controlling cash flow while ensuring that liquidity of business is not affected. But the limitation of the report is that mechanical cash flow prediction cannot be made due to insufficient data. Moreover, reliance has to be made on the data provided by the company.
Literature Review:
Cash flow statement provides details regarding the cash and cash equivalent entering and leaving the organization through all the business activities including operation, investment and financial activities (Farshadfar & Monem, 2013). There are two method which can be used to calculate cash from operation: direct method and indirect method. It is complimentary to the balance sheet and income statement of the organization and all these statements together form the financial statement (NGUYEN, 2020). This statement act as a measurement as to how well the organization is managing cash and if it has adequate cash to meet at least its short-term obligations. A business needs to have at least some amount of cash in hand. It will be of no use even if it has a high amount of profit and low amount of cash since its liquidity position will be in endanger (Jury, 2012). This is the reason why cash flow is so important to the investors, stakeholders and management.
There has a huge development of the technology in the recent time including artificial intelligence, block chain, etc. (De Filippi & Hassan, 2018). With the advent of internet specially, everyone has started to use smartphones and laptop. Business organization can also use technology to their advantage, it will become easier to store and access information and also to analyse it as per the requirement. Information technology is a way in which computers and other technologies can be used to store, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data or information (Venkatesh, Thong & Xu, 2012). With the reduced manual labour the chance of e
or or mistake is also highly reduced. Moreover, it becomes easier to get the data at the time of the need. Information technology can be used for the purpose of accounting as well. The accounting data can be entered in the system which will be stored and can be accessed any time as needed (Lim, 2013). Report and analysis can be made with those data.
The system used by an organization can...
