Assessment Title
Assessment Task 2: Written Essay
Purpose
Allows students to develop written communication skills required for all nursing
interactions; and enables students to demonstrate a developing understanding of
the role and responsibilities of the nurse within the Australian Health Care Context.
The other purpose of this written essay will be to provide the student with an
opportunity to receive formative feedback on foundational tertiary study skills such
as writing, referencing and resource selection.

Task
In the Australian Health care system nurses are expected to be professionals,
not heroes or angels as is often portrayed as the role of the nurse in popular
media. Stokes-Parish et al., XXXXXXXXXXexplore this idea in-depth, stating that “the
equirement of a hero suggests that one must act outside the norm, or protect
and defend others, and goes beyond advocacy…" (p.464).
In written essay format, identify and discuss up to four (4) specific
elements from relevant Australian nursing guidelines which call for nurses
to act professionally in their role. You may wish to refer to the International
Council of Nurses Code of Ethics for Nurses OR the Nursing and Midwifery
Board of Australia’s (NMBA) Registered Nurse Standards for Practice OR
the NMBA Code of Conduct for nurses or other relevant Australian nursing
guidelines to address the question.

Late penalties will be applied from 9:01am on the 6th of April, 2022, incu

penalty of the maximum marks available up to a maximum of 15%. Assessment
tasks received more than three calendar days after the due or extended date will
not be allocated a mark.
Example:
An assignment is submitted 12 hours late and is initially marked at 60 out of 100.
A 5% penalty is applied (5% of 100 is 5 marks). Therefore, the student receives
55 out of 100 as a final mark.
