Assignment #02 Description
This assignment is designed to develop student’s analytical skills in addition to Wireshark utilisation to capture data from live network traffic. Through the labs, students have learned how to analyse HTTP packets, TCP packets streams, audio streaming with TCP. Students have learned to identify the performance parameters such as load distribution, throughput graph, time sequence graph, flow graph and window scaling graph.
Overview and General Instructions of Assignment
Students need to use captured Wireshark data to explain the performance of the distributed system behind the given web system and a completed document file needs to be submitted.
Task ‐ 1
From the (MIT lab Network), student need to chase and capture three websites in the table below (Table 1). Students have to analyse the performance for each website in regards of:
· Load Distribution
· Throughput Graph
· Time Sequence Graph
· Flow Graph
· Window Scaling Graph
The performance analysis requires screenshots of the graphs and statistics generated by Wireshark and the discussion of those screenshots in detail.

Note: You can also demonstrate other statistics that you find to be significant for analyzing this network
Task ‐ 2
Investigate streaming audio delivery over TCP by listening to Internet live radio and capturing the transmitted packets. From a second network (Home, work, etc.), students have to chase and capture one more website which has an audio stream (such as radio stations, e.g
http:
www.abc.net.au
adio/listen‐online ). Listen to the audio stream for at least five minutes to capture enough packets for analysis. Students are free to choose any website. Show your performance analysis using Throughput Graph and Time Sequences Graph. Screenshots of the graphs need to be provided and the performance shown in the graph must be discussed in detail

NETWORK PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
INTRODUCTION
Wireshark is used for recording the live network traffic. The performance such as throughput, windows scaling, load distribution, flow graph and time sequence are analyzed. In this assignment, the packets are explored using the parameters such as throughput, windows scaling, load distribution, flow graph and time sequence are analyzed [1].
Throughput is a number of outputs generated for a single unit time. The performance of good website will be high. When there is a gap in the graph then the throughput is not generated. Window scaling graph depicts the window size of the receiver. i.e how the data is handled in the receiver side. In load distribution, the workloads for the incoming servers are distributed in order to request and respond for the user without any delay. For every web server, the workloads are distributed in equal amount. Flow graph illustrates the transmission time, sequence number, frame size, the name of protocols, source IP address and destination IP address. Time sequence graph is analyzed based on the sequence number generated per unit time. It also shows the flow of data for a time [3].
Performance evaluation of website 1: http:
www.onlinenewspapers.com/australi.htm
LOAD DISTRIBUTION
In this website we can see that for 3 servers loads are distributed for HTTP response and for 4 servers the loads are distributed for the HTTP request. The server IP addresses such as 117.121.250.149, 103.231.98.48 and 23.35.4.60 are used for HTTP response and the server IP address 23.35.4.60, 103.231.98.48, 239.255.255.250 and 117.121.250.149 are used. [2]
THROUGHPUT
In this website, the throughput explored for time=0.5 sec to 1 sec. The analysis shows that there is no stable throughput and it differs from 1.05 X 10^5 bits to Zero bits (i.e < than 1,50,000 bits). The performance is not bad but it is not so good.[2].
TIME SEQUENCE GRAPH
The time sequence graph shows the packet transmission with the sequence number from 172.217.166.163:443 to 192.168.0.16. The above line shows receiver window size. It is calculated by the adding ACK number and presents advertised window size. For every byte of packet transmission, the sequence number is increased by 1 [4].
FLOW GRAPH
The flow graph illustrates the packet transmission between the client and the server. The client with the IP address 192.168.0.16 starts the connection for the server 239.255.255.250. The notification is sent to the sender they receive the success message. Total packet segment size is 1460 and window size is 256 [5].
WINDOW SCALING
The line in the graph is not flat completely. This shows that the window size of the receiver is not big always for receiving the packet [6].
