ELEC – Electricity 10 marks
1. A 35 Ω and a 65 Ω resistor are connected in parallel to 24 V power supply.
a) Draw an electrical circuit diagram (1)
) What is the equivalent resistance? (2)
c) What is the potential difference across each resistor? (1)
d) What is the cu
ent that flows across each resistor (4)
e) What is the power dissipated by each resistor? (2)
(continue solutions onto next page)

MAGN – Magnetism 10 marks
1. Two parallel wires separated by 16 cm are ca
ying cu
ents of 14 A (left) and 22A (right) in the
same direction (up the page). Draw a diagram to represent this and the magnetic field directions.
Determine the magnetic field at position 3 cm to the right of the 22A wire. Calculate the distance
where the magnetic field would be zero.

2. A golf ball is struck at 120 km/hr at 40° to the horizontal, determine (7)
(a) the horizontal component of the initial velocity (in m/s),
(b) the vertical component of the initial velocity (in m/s),
(c) the ball’s maximum height
(d) how long the ball is in the air

3. A box of mass 24 kg is on a frictionless inclined plane of 32°. (4)
(a) Draw a diagram, listing all relevant information
(b) Calculate the normal force, the force parallel and the force perpendicular to the plane.
(c) How much force is required to push the box up the inclined plane, so that it is accelerating at 3.5ms-1

4. A 95 kg box needs to be lifted to put on the back of a ute. The box is too heavy to be lifted directly onto the
tray, 1.5 m high. You decide to use a frictionless ramp to slide the box from the ground onto the tray.
(5)
(a) Draw a diagram, listing all relevant information
(b) Calculate the work required to lift the box onto the tray
(c) If you wish to only use 2/5 of the force on the ramp, compared to lifting directly vertical, what length
and angle should the ramp be?
