The Health Care Challenges: the US and UK Context 
There are certain challenges that the health care sector of the United States is expected 
to face in the future. To overcome those challenges and to mitigate the problems related to 
them, some specific changes have to be ushered in the sphere of health care. Till date it has 
been assumed that among the expected challenges the primary one would be management 
challenges. But even though management challenges have to be overcome, there are certain 
other challenges too that must be combated in the future to ensure the well being of the health 
care sector.  
It is noteworthy that that from every quarter the health care industry “is under 
pressure to cut costs and improve quality and the debate around the Affordable Care Act has 
crystallized the need for reform; many providers are leading the charge, moving further and 
faster to redesign care delivery than the law requires” (Merrild, 2015). Hence, change is in 
the air but the change has to be steered in the right direction. Many health care leaders of 
today are of the opinion that their management models are at stake due to the contradictions 
created through issues of compliance. Moreover, some other health care leaders are sceptic 
about the utility of cutting down cost and providing care at a low cost (which is often quite a 
paradox). In this context one must take into account the fact that, “Many health care leaders 
understand that there will be little room in the health care landscape of the next decade for 
laggards. These leaders may feel confident about their strategic direction, but they know their 
current models won‟t get them where they need to go. Thus they need to become their own 
disruptors. This disruption would be essential to bring about the needed changes that would 
be meant for overcoming future management related challenges in the health care sector. 
Moreover, several studies and surveys have found that the roadblocks are within the health 
care organization management. A good management system must be in alignment with the 
operations, objectives, and goals of the organization, but this simple proposition is sometimes

becoming quite complex for health care organizations in the United States.
