Introduction
The report aims to analyse the changing health care labour force and its impact over the
health care industry. It takes into account likely effects of changing labour force over the
patient and health care delivery. Report concludes with recommendations
It is found that the health care labour force in USA has been changed and now more and more
egistered nurses are required. With the growing numbers of patients, shortages of nurses
have become adverse to deal with the demands of the market. More than 400000 nurse
practitioners, physicians, physician assistants and nurses are required between 2014 to 2024
and this is a huge challenge for health care industry to fulfil. Personal care aides, registered
nurses and other kinds of occupations are growing in demands.
In the wake of such a big requirement to fulfil the positions, health care industry seem to lag
ehind as the health care labour force is already aging and most of the nurses and health care
practitioner are likely to retire.
If we consider the population that are being treated by the labour force, they comprise of
older population that is growing as well. It is difficult to cater the needs of older population
without sufficient availability of RN because they face many critical diseases and need
utmost care. This is again a challenging task for the health care labour force to consider.
The rules and regulations offered by the USA government and state government also shape
the recruitment of labour force. There is a focus towards enhancing skills of health care
professionals to fulfil needs of patients. The work redesign and new roles and responsibilities
esulted in dramatic changes in the mix of staff. Now there is 20 to 50 percent of reduction in
the registered nurses numbers and increase in less skilled people (Pindus, & Greiner, 2016).
Now there is a trend in the health care facility to treat those patients that need urgent care and
are in most acute phase of illness. This results in substitution of the part time nurses or
temporary nurses in place of full time nurses. The patient care delivery models require having
