- A brief overview of what the test measures and the settings in which it can be used.
Looking at the 16-PF, it is a self-reporting personality test developed over many years of data. “It is highly effective at revealing potential, confirming suitability, and identifying development needs. Unlike many personality assessments designed for use in business, the 16pf establishes a fully-rounded picture of the whole individual, making it a vital roadmap for decision-makers (https://www.16pf.com/en_US/(Links to an external site.)) .” It is used to learn which personality traits people carry and can develop in order to make decisions on hiring and promoting people within an organization.
- Discuss some situations when personality assessments such as the one you selected might be used in the workplace. What information could a personality test provide regarding behaviors, communication style, etc., and how would that relate to a workplace setting?
This assessment could be used when conducting new hires or promotions from within the company. In order to understand which characteristics each individual carries, this helps with determining how is the best fit for the company values and culture as well as who could develop into a great leader. By administering a test such as this they can have a more rounded picture of the individual. This test can provide a breakdown of what characteristics each potential employee has and based on the data can help determine the best hire or promotion for the role they are trying to fill.
- What are the relative strengths and weaknesses of the test?
A strength would be the assessment increases self-awareness because they are asking you to reflect upon yourself when answering the questions. Weaknesses would be the absence of data that is published. It is always awesome to get feedback on these assessments, however, how much value does it really hold if the information is not shared or tracked?
- What factors must be considered when examining and interpreting the results of personality and self-inventories such as this?
How hard is this person on themselves? The self-reflecting can vary from someone who has high expectations of themselves to someone who lives in a state of denial. This can skew the data and prevent the information from being as accurate as possible.
