PRESENTATION TASK
In groups of two, you will debate a contemporary issue relating to the healthcare
industry against an opposing group. In preparation for the debate, you will
esearch the debate question from both perspectives: the affirmative and opposing
teams—each student will research one argument from the affirmative and opposing
perspective. Arguments must be underpinned by sound evidence. On the day, your
debate perspective will be chosen by the tutor.
During the debate, you will be required to use the Policy debate structure that has
een introduced during the module. Each student will present their arguments
within a time frame and be prepared for cross-examination from the opposing
team. Each student must contribute 5 minutes overall, and the tutor will chair the
debate.

Debate Topics
Groups will choose one of the following questions to debate:

1. Should smokers be responsible for their healthcare costs as a result of
smoking?
2. Legalising assisted suicide: Is it a good idea?
3. If dementia service users abuse staff, should they be exempted from
prosecution?

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
You will be assessed on your capacity to develop a well-supported argument for or
against the selected debate topic. In addition to presenting at least one well-
esourced argument during the main argument, you will also be expected to
participate in the cross-examination or rebuttal.
Your debate will be assessed against the learning outcomes. You can find more
information about the marks in table 1.

A Code of Conduct (CoC) violation can result in you losing marks for the assessed
debate.
The CoC states that students must:
ï‚· Behave in a respectful and courteous manner towards the chair and other
participants
ï‚· Avoid inte

the chair
ï‚· Not engage in ve
ally / physically offensive behaviour (e.g. swearing,
shouting, prejudiced / personal comments)
ï‚· Avoid reading from a pre-prepared statement; the lecturer may ask you to
stop, reduce your marks, or terminate your attempt altogether
ï‚· Abide by any other rules present within ARU, London disciplinary regulations
not listed above
While you may

argument in place of presenting your own live. This assessment is designed to test
your ability to participate in structured debates and present a sound researched
argument, not whether you can read out loud.
References must be submitted to your lecturer prior to the debate assessment.

IF DEMENTIA SERVICE USERS ABUSE STAFF, SHOULD THEY BE EXEMPTED FROM PROSECUTION
For the topic
The main discussion is if a patient with dementia can be prosecuted for abusing a staff. I am of the notion that no, they cannot be prosecuted because there are laws protecting them in such scenarios. Here I have debated on how the laws of United Kingdom are protecting them and on what grounds can they not be prosecuted. For me they cannot be prosecuted because their mental state is not normal and so the intentions behind such behaviour do not justify their actions unless there are proper evidences against the abuse being done on intentional purpose.
Dementia is progressively being viewed as having a rights-based aspect, as I would like to think. This offers an assortment of benefits, including expanded legitimate security, administration qualification, and a positive social change in how dementia is seen and perceived (counting by individuals with dementia themselves). Dementia is such a disease that alters the health condition of the individual to such a level that their actions are mostly unjustified since they do not have a track of their actions even if it is abusing someone who is taking care of them like the hospital staff or even their family. Their violent behaviour cannot be proved to be intentional or disease driven and this is the reason why prosecuting a patient with Alzheimer’s or dementia is so difficult.
As per Dr. Aaron Pinkhasov, administrator of psychological wellness at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, NY, FTD is described by a deficiency of control that "channels our thoughts and motivations before we put them out into the world." An investigation of more than 2,400 patients at the University of California, San Francisco's Memory and Aging Centre, which included 545 patients with Alzheimer's sickness and 171 with FTD, observed that 37% of those with FTD had perpetrated a wrongdoing, contrasted with just 8% of those with Alzheimer's (Appel et al., 2020). Furthermore, in individuals with FTD, such violations submitted developed to incorporate taking ill-advised methodologies.
Skill is a lawful word that depicts an individual's ability to make all around educated and sane decisions. It has something to do with an individual's intellectual limits and mental capacity to act sanely and capably. At the point when an individual comes up short on the...
