The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System was established in 1636, is one of the largest 
healthcare systems for the veterans. It was established during the war of the Plymouth Colony 
with the Pequot Indians by passing a law for the soldiers who were disabled during the war. It 
provides a full range of services to veteran population of 252,000. It is covered in the area of 
35,243 sq. miles. accredited by the Joint Commission, is comprised of two large Department of 
Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers located in Temple and Waco, a large stand-alone 
outpatient clinic in Austin, four community based outpatient clinics located in Brownwood, 
Bryan/College Station, Cedar Park, and Palestine plus a rural outreach clinic in La Grange.
