Assisted Living and Senior Housing: A Discussion
The sphere of healthcare is becoming more diversified and more enriched with the
addition of different modes of care-giving. In this respect the inclusion of some specific modes
of care-giving a
angements like assisted living (AL) and senior housing deserve special mention
not only due to the fact that gradually they are gaining popularity, but also due to the fact that on
a gradual basis such modes of care-giving is gaining more prominence due to their efficacy in
appeasing the needs of a particular population of patients and individuals who are in need of
care.
Assisted living is a care-giving a

that provides personal care support services such as meals, medication management, bathing,
dressing and transportation” (A Place for Mom, 2017). In an assisted living mode of care-giving
some special types of services are provided to the residents by both licensed and unlicensed staff.

the assisted living mode and the services that are rendered to them include, but are not limited to,
24-hour supervision and security, daily meals, laundry, basic housekeeping, health and exercise
programs, social programs, access to medical services, transportation, etc. (A Place for Mom,
2017). Such services are often provided by certified nursing assistants (CNAs), who are
accompanied by orderlies and personal attendants (Ray, 2017). In this respect one must note that
“The nursing assistants are trained to watch for health changes and to report their concerns when
issues arise that could compromise patient safety and welfare” (Ray, 2017). Then there are
practicing registered nurses (RNs). In smaller assisted living facilities there are visiting nurses to
supervise the nursing assistants and in larger assisted living facilities there are full-time nursing
shifts to take care of the target population (Ray, 2017). Then there are activities directors in
