Part 1: CHCDIV001 Work with diverse people
Short answer questions
Answer the following thirteen (13) questions in as much detail as possible.
1. What types of diversity might you encounter in your role?
There can be as many diverse groups as healthcare as I can encounter during my service as healthcare professional. However, to classify them on specific level, I will be in close contact with various ethnic groups, Aboriginal people in particular as well as people from different cultural backgrounds other than the Australian ones.
2. What information about a cultural group should you have in order to work effectively with them?
I would prefer starting with reviewing the cultural history of the group. It will let me know the general conventions through which, the community has grown. I will then direct my attention towards the particular aspect of healthcare and how the subject of wellness of people is approached in the chosen cultural groups. The gaps in understanding health and wellbeing will be examined and addressed afterwards.
3. How can your attitudes impact your ability to work inclusively with diverse groups of people? Think about workplace behaviours which are not inclusive, for example ‘not allowing people to practice their religion/faith’.
Provide at least two (2) more examples.

4. Describe what cultural awareness, cultural safety, and cultural competence are and why these are important in your work.
Cultural awareness is the process through which, a person verifies that he or she has compatible status, in terms of knowledge about the culture of a particular ethnic group. Cultural safety is the assurance provided to all professionals to practice their cultural values at workplace. Cultural...
