Case Study 1 (20 marks):
Steven is a 68-year-old who lives alone. His family booked an appointment with you (CSEP-CPT) to improve his overall strength and ability to perform activities of daily living.
Steven checked “yes” to question 1b on the Get Active Questionnaire. He informs you that he is taking medication for his high blood pressure, as prescribed by his physician, since 2010. When you ask him about how he feels currently, he reports feeling “muscle weakness” but overall “good”.
When discussing his current physical activity and exercise he states that he goes for a “slow 10-minute walk once a day”. He has minimal experience with resistance training and aerobic training. His family wants to set Steven up so he can exercise under your supervision three times a week for an hour. He mentions that he would like to be able to play with his grandchildren without feeling tired and sore. He has no past injuries and states he is pain free.

Justin is a 15-year-old boy. He played recreational soccer last year but has decided he did not want to continue. He currently attends physical education class at school twice a week for 60 minutes and takes the dog for a 10-minute walk every day after school, but does not do any other structured PA/exercise. Justin takes a 5-minute bus ride to school. He spends majority of his free time playing video games with his friends. His parents are both very busy with full time jobs and managing a household of 4 children.
All appropriate paper work is completed prior to his assessments. His resting HR was 88bpm, and resting BP:128/82mmHg.
