Literature Review
The accommodation industry has achieved new heights in the development of customer friendly and fast reservation mobile applications in the cu
ent time. Due to the need for a competitive edge, a lot of renting and booking solutions, which were offline have invested in the development of their companion mobile application that their customers can access using their smartphones and enjoy their features. Be it from booking, to calling executives for fast problem solving or changing the entire management of the company. Different booking
okers have managed to ensure that their businesses remain profitable, and expand this way, in thriving and depressing economic season both O’Neill et al. Smartphones with the access of the internet has enabled for real time customer support for customers and real time updates for the employees of the accommodation industry, it has also helped get a real idea of the property of rental and sale nature, with reviews and live photos, from those of previous customers and connected craig sites Sparks & Browning et al.
The fast adoption of the mobile based applications is changing the landscape of the hospitality industry in terms of marketing, management and problem solving. Within this framework, understanding the cu
ent capabilities of mobile application and implementing more features of accommodation, hence augmenting the accommodation services can revolutionize the operation of such a business. In this way, usability of a system is a key factor that contributes to the efficiency of a business, especially one involved in accommodation. The satisfaction in which the end users achieve seamless interaction with the accommodation facilities provided by such a business is paramount in increasing the worth of the business. And such an interaction has been achieved with the mobile application product, it has contributed to the positive user experience, where users can interact with … with great functionality and varying features. Usability and usability evaluation have garnered more than enough attention in e-commerce and in-commerce due to the high cost of customer acquisition and retention.
One technique in order to determine the usability evaluation is through expert-based methods like a cognitive walkthrough and heuristics inspection. One of the advantages of these expert opinioned techniques are that it is easier to identify the usability issue quickly, in a small time frame hence leading to heuristics based evaluation a cost-effective method allowing more than 60% usability heuristics that has been widely adopted in the one developed by Al-Sumait et al., which includes rules of Visibility of system status. Match between system and the real world. User control, consistency, e
or prevention, recognition, flexibility and efficiency of use, aesthetics and minimal design help user diagnose and recover e
ors, and Help and documentation. The process of usability heuristics evaluation starts with engaging a small set of evaluators as many as five to examine the interface or software and judge its compliance with usability heuristic. Next, evaluators aggregate the usability evaluation results in a co
esponding list of usability deficiencies and its co
esponding violated heuristics. Then, usability deficiencies are ranked in terms of severity from zero, where zero is considered ‘cosmetic’ issue, to four, a ‘usability catastrophe’ that is imperative to fix. Considerable number of research studies applied usability heuristics to evaluate medical devices, online learning systems, scientific software, websites, and virtual reality systems
