The purpose of assignment is to assess students on the following Learning
Outcomes:
LO1: Describe and apply project management principles to implement a complete IT project
lifecycle
LO2: Prepare a comprehensive and detailed project plan, including project initiation and scope
definition
LO3: Analyse the key features and processes required to execute, control and coordinate the
project
LO4: Evaluate requirements for project closure, acceptance and support

The aim of this report is to demonstrate the skills and knowledge of planning the project
throughout different project management knowledgfe areas. You are required to select a
specific IT/IS project and apply these skills and knowledge according to the requirements
stated below. The project can be implementing/upgrading an infrastructure, a system or
oth. Major examples of these projects can be (but not limited to):
• Information system development
• Smartphone app development
• Hardware infrastructure development
• Website/web service development
Rememeber that these are only examples. In your report you need to specify what exactly
the project is and what is its main objective(s).
Hint: It is recommended that you discuss with your lecturer your selected project to make
sure that you are in the right track. This communication is also recommended while you are
developing your report by time.
Requirements:
In your project you are required to consider a number of knowledge areas of project
management which include:
1. Scope Management:
In this area you need to consider the following:
a. Defining the project requirements. You are required to define at least five
equirements.
. Develop a draft version of the project scope statement for the project. Be as
specific as possible in describing the characteristics and requirements, as well
as all of the project's deliverables. Ensure the testing and training as part of
the project scope.

c. Develop the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for the project. Break down
the work to Level 3 or Level 4, as appropriate. Be sure the WBS is based on
the project description above, the project scope statement created in task b,
and any other relevant information.
d. Develop a strategy for scope validation and change control for this project.
Write a short summary describing the key points of the strategy.
2. Time management:
You need to create the project schedule based on the scope statement and the WBS
previously implemented which includes:
a. Estimating the duration of the project activities based on the WBS and
considering the resources assignment. Describe the process of how you
calculated this estimate.
. The Gantt chart.
3. Cost management:
You need to estimate the cost of the project based on the activities and resources
assigned. Consider the following costs as well:
a. Training and testing costs.
. Reserves
Also, you state the budgeting based on the duration of the project. Present your
udgeting in a table.
4. Stakeholders and communications management:
a. Identify the different stakeholders in your project. You need to identify at
least 7 stakeholders.
. Create a table for the stakehoders. This table should include:
i. The stakehoders’ names
ii. His/her postion
iii. His/her relationship to the project
iv. The media of cumunicating with him/her and the due time
5. Risk Mangement:
a. Define at least 3 negative risks related to your project that could be
estimated.
. Relate each risk to the co
esponding knowledge area.
c. Create a
eif risk register for each risk explaining your strategy on how to
metigate it.

General Instruction
1. Your scope, time estimate, cost estimate and other requirements should, somehow, match
the project based on its type, nature and size. You need to be realistic and logic as much as
you can.
2. The word limit for the assignment is 3000.
3. The Font size needs to be “12” with font type as Times New Roman or Arial.
4. Plagiarism: Your project and work should not be similar to any of your classmates’ work.
Otherwise, that would be considered as a kind of plagiarism.
Submit your report into the co
esponding Moodle drop-box for the assignment. Note that
this will be a turn-it-in drop box and as such you will be provided with a similarity score. This
will be considered when grading the assignment. Note that incidents of plagiarism will be
penalised. If your similarity score is high you can re-submit your report, but re-submission is
only allowed up to the due date. If you submit your assignment after the due date and time
e-submission will not be allowed.
5. Late Submission: All work is due by the due date and time. Late submissions will be
penalised at the rate of 10% per day including weekends.
