Health Challenge Research Proposal
Overview
• The Health Challenge Research Proposal task contributes 35% towards your
final grade for Reflect. Research. Resolve Questions in Health
• It is divided into two parts:
o Part A: Draft Outline Health Challenge Research Proposal (15%)
o Part B: Final Health Challenge Research Proposal (20%)
Rationale
As a future member of the health care system, it is essential that you develop the
skills associated with planning and designing research projects that will be used to
implement change in a society. However, the success of any intervention or
treatment (for example) must first be tested to confirm its safety, effectiveness and
feasibility. Therefore, your task is to propose a testable (research) strategy to
‘Resolve’ a big health challenge we are cu
ently facing.
Aims
Briefly, for Part A you will:
• Select a focussed research topic based on your elected health module
• Locate and reference credible scientific information
• Prepare a draft scientific research proposal
For Part B you will:
• Review instructor feedback on your draft scientific research proposal
• Use this feedback to update your scientific research proposal
• Consider the caree
professions required to conduct your research
Part A: Draft Outline Health Challenge Research Proposal (15%)
Step 1: Select a topic

• It must be focused and achievable. For example, “eradicating obesity in
Australia” is too
oad and unrealistic. Show us that you understand the
complexities associated with the health challenge and that you can select a
specific and attainable resolution for your chosen condition.
• The topic can be related to a biological, medical or public health intervention.
For example, you can design a research strategy to test ‘the effectiveness of a
new treatment’, ‘a new lab based molecular target for diagnoses’, or ‘a new
educational/awareness campaign’. You have the freedom to be creative in
your topic and the research process, however, remember it must be practical
and feasible.
• If you are unsure with your topic, please ask your module facilitator
Step 2: Locate appropriate information
• To gain experience of what a research project is, you must be able to read
and understand clinical guidelines and research articles. Therefore, the
information used in this assignment must only come from credible clinical or
scientific sources, such as government material, guidelines and research
papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
• Information presented must not come from any of the following sources:
o Dictionaries, Wikipedia or other encyclopaedias
o Lecture notes, personal communications/experiences
o Promotional
ochures or advertising materials
o Websites with no clear author or lack citations to original research
material (except for government reports, i.e. ABS)
• Be sure to utilise the University’s scientific journal databases such as
PubMed or Scopus. These can be located at the link below, just select the
subject area of interest (i.e. Molecular and Cellular biology, Public Health,
Food and Nutritional Sciences, etc) and use the recommended database.

health care system and the necessity of an intervention
esolution.
• Hypothesis and Aims: Indicate the purpose of your research proposal,
identifying what specific topics/aspects will be investigated and discussed.
• Methodology: Outline the design of your investigation. What tools,

anging from bench-side scientists to data analysists. Consider your project
from a professional perspective and outline 5 specific careers/professions
across a range of disciplines that would be essential for the effective
completion and implementation of your project. In your future, which career do
you most likely see yourself employed? What steps are you taking to achieve
this prospective career?
Step 7: Submit your final research proposal
• Submit your final research proposal electronically via the appropriate link in
