The 2010 United States Census cited the largest number of people over the age of 65 in the United States ever recorded. This number is projected to increase over the next several decades. Thus, as the older population continues to increase, the interest in aging and the aging population increases. Complete the following:

Introduction
Increase in population increases the number of individuals in every age group.  The study of aging and problems related to aged people is termed as ‘Gerontology’. It applies a multidisciplinary approach in studies and incorporates subjects like biology, sociology and psychology. According to the data presented by the US. Census Bureau, by 2020 average life expectancy will be above 75 for both men and women. Thus, increasing older population leads to increasing interest towards gerontology.
Growth in gerontology studies in US last 20 years
Adjoining gerontology with healthcare only will be a very narrow perspective because of the multidisciplinary approach of this subject. There are wide requirements that the old population possess which can be in terms of health, financial support, mental constructiveness, occupation and much more. As mentioned by Pruchno and Bowers (2015), USA is growing older and in order to manage that population the universities are responding by the incorporation of various aspects of aging in available studies. 
Thousands of programs have been created by the universities from last 25 years in order to increase the availability of supporting system for older future. Hundreds of them has also started to offer graduate studies in these courses. Wide range of jobs have also been provided by this study and these includes subjects such as health counselors, management students, therapists, service industries and much more.
