Document Preview: Unit 8: Discussion
Introduction
In this LearnScape, the student is responsible for examining the DHHS’ evaluation of the policy and how it may impact Bight Road Health Care System.
As this scenario so aptly demonstrates, it is important for organizations to carefully analyze the effect that new and amended regulations will have on firm, its rivals, and consumers. The healthcare industry has really struggled in meeting quality standards, controlling expenditures, and improving access to underserved segments of the population, which has become a catalyst for healthcare reform legislation and new regulations. Since the purpose of regulations is to protect the consumer from poor business practices, it could posit that we brought these voluminous regulations on ourselves. Regulations and an organization’s ability to come into compliance can make or break the entity. This puts an enormous amount of pressure on healthcare leaders to not only ensure that institutional policies conform with the regulations, but that they are effectively implemented and processes are put in place to monitor compliance. A number of healthcare leaders have lost their positions for failing to keep their eyes on regulatory compliance.
