1. The government of Australia is significantly working towards making the policies and procedures for the refugees and asylum seekers. The Australian human rights commission is also working towards promoting the rights of the refugees and asylum seekers. The rights of the people are being secured through many acts (Migration Act 1958), humanitarian programs and grants. When the refugees and asylum seekers are in the Australian border or the Australian jurisdiction, the government exercises many obligations under various international treaties to ensure that human rights of these people are secured. Some of these treaties include “International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CAT) and the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)” (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2017, p. 1).
2. The unfortunate consequences of the high flow of refugees are the big threat to the security of the country. Mainly after the incident of 9/11, the government has to divide the rights of the refugees in the ‘genuine refuges’ and the ‘illegal’ refugees. The national and regional security implications of the large scale refugee flow include the acceptance of the ‘genuine refugees’ (McAdam, 2013). The country accepts the refugees only according to the applications from the Australian refugee category visa (whether self-referred or referred by UNHCR). The security implications of the regional and global context explain that refugees are required to provide the complete documents that also include the certified copies of the documents. Also, the refugees seeking to enter Australia are required to satisfy various important criteria (Tow, 2016).
