In 1854 when the British fought with the Russians in the Crimean war it was observed that cholera and dia
hoea was responsible for more mortality than the war itself. Florence Nightingale was a nurse during that time and upon her a
ival to treat the soldiers, the mortality rate dropped to 2% from as high as 42%. She introduces few innovations like keeping the beds apart, keeping the horses away from the treatment area and also cleaning and flushing out the urinals and the toilets with charcoal several times a day. It was her meticulous record keeping that is still a key to present day statistical quality measurement, and she was an innovator in the collection, tabulation, interpretation, and graphical display of descriptive statistics.
