    A drastic shift has been observed in the managerial theories over a period of time. Workers in the early 80s were subject to harsh working conditions and were only considered as human machines unlike today where management of the organization considers the workers to be the human asset of the organization and are considered to be the valuable resources of the organization. Very few organizations even had a separate human resource department that can look after the well being and welfare of the human resources. The idea of the managerial theories which focuses on the fact that productivity of the human resources is directly linked to the well being of the employees emerged later in the mid 90s. The term human resource management came very later into practice. As mentioned in the work of Lussier and Hendon (2017) functions of human resources department have changed drastically with more focus on skill development.
    Earlier the focus of the organizations was only to gain maximum output from the workers without bothering about their health and their working conditions. It was later that the focus shifted towards motivational theories and other theories promoting ethical organizational behaviour and other practices of the recent days human management system. The term human resource management evolved drastically after the period of the industrial revolution ending in the year 1850. Theories and concepts which focused on the training and development of the organizations began to grow. Also, the industrial rules and regulations along with the policies and procedures set by the government improved the safety conditions of the workers to a great extent.
