· Part 1:Summary of the article
Poor sleeping pattern elevates the risk of cardiovascular illness and stroke. Taking good sleep for 7-8 hours each night, waking up early, not being sleepy during day and no snoring are considered as five indicators for good health. Allotting one point for each of these indicators constitute the sleep score of an individual. The lower the value of sleep score, greater is the risk of an individual for cardiovascular illness and related diseases. Even in people who are genetically at high risk of developing cardiac illness, the good sleeping habits protected them, reducing their risk of heart diseases than the poor sleepers.

ent statistics related to healthy people focus area 12 ‘Heart Disease and Stroke’. According to National Health Interview Survey 2017, the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases in US were 10.6%. The prevalence is recorded greater in males for heart disease (11.8%), coronary artery disease (7.2%), hypertension (26%) & stroke (3.3%) than in females (Virani, Alonso & Benjamin, 2020). The global burden of cardiovascular diseases in US is due to low physical activity, high BMI, high BP and higher levels of cholesterol. The heart disease was recorded as leading cause of deaths in 2017.
