Managed care and the universal health care are the two different philosophies of the
health care world, where by managed care implies the medical care as per the guidelines laid
down by the private insurer. On the other hand, the universal health care implies the health care
approach which is accessible by everybody in the world in some form or the other, this health
care is usually run by the public agencies which set some fees, or premiums. Some of the major
differences between these both terms are -
1. Coverage and accessibility – Managed care is applicable to those who will opt for it,
while the universal health care is open for all. Managed care consists of the treatment of
all the health related issues, but universal health care programs provide only the basic
level of health checkups.
2. Selection of doctors - The panel of the doctors is decided by the insurer and the patient
will have to select the doctor from that panel in case of the managed care. So, the options
with the patient are very limited. While, in case of the universal health care, the patient is
free it to get treatment from anywhere. This is beneficial in case of emergencies as well,
