Description of the Organization
Goldfields Employment and Learning Centre, Neighbourhood House (G.E.L.C.) is a not-for-profit community-based Adult Learning Centre who deliver a number of federal and state government funded programs and ACFE funded and fee for service accredited and non-accredited training programs. G.E.L.C. is a member of Australian organization learn local who help members deliver training and education in community settings. Through the learn local initiative GELC offers a variety of courses to help community members to gain skills that enable them to achieve their work, study and life goals. The programs offered aim to improve participants reading, writing, math and digital skills to enable them to return to study, gain a qualification, gain employment, change careers or learn something new.
G.L.E.C. is also a member of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria, through this organization they offer community events, community lunches, social groups, a community garden, food bank, Job seeking support, Internet access, room hire, self help and support groups, seniors' groups and youth programs. G.E.L.C. also offer comprehensive handbooks to all staff and volunteers. The staff handbook details information regarding codes of practice, policies and procedures, record management, and code of conduct. The handbook also contains links to relevant legislation such as the Information Privacy Act 2000 and Commission for Children and Young People Act 2012

ant inclusive and strong community through the provision of quality services in the fields of education, training and employment. To these ends we will employ a fully trained staff member, dedicated to the Mission of G.E.L.C. We will forge links in a co-operative pattern with all regional organizations which pursue or support aspects of our aims. We have a special interest in the provision of assistance to young people who for one reason or another have had reduced success in the various formal educational organizations.
It is our intention to maintain and develop close positive relations with the appropriate departments of Government, Federal, State and Regional. The management of G.E.L.C is and will remain in the hands of a Committee of Management dedicated to the aims here recorded and operating through a Committed Manager.

GELC is ran by a management committee that has a vital role as leaders and decision makers within the organization. They are responsible to ensure that everything GELC dose is line with their purpose, visions and aims. To achieve this the management committee have established the strategic direction, ethical principles and fundamental values in with GELC as an organization operates. Clients of the organization
G.E.L.C welcomes people of all ages and from many varied backgrounds. Many clients have limited formal schooling and many clients present with challenges such as mental health conditions, physical and intellectual disability, poor social skills, and economic disadvantage. A number of sociological theories can be used to examine the presenting issues of these clients and how these theories can achieve the goals of the programs offered by G.E.L.C.
