In an attempt to decrease the falling rate and fracture incidences in stroke (cerebrovascular accident) patients, who are still under rehabilitation, it is important to evaluate therapy exercise programs to improve their balance. Providing physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) exercise programs daily with range of motion every shift as compared to current practice of rehabilitation therapy 4- 5 times a week might be an effective treatment plan to reduce falling rates and hence fracture occurrences in CVA patients during rehabilitation (Avanecean et al, 2017; Guirguis-Blake et al, 2018; Cheng et al, 2018; Sherrington et al, 2017). Physical therapy is focused on improving or restoring movement, strength and range of motion, while occupational therapy is focused on improving motors skills necessary for daily tasks.
Expected Outcomes
The aim of this study is to create a evidence based intervention so that current practices can be improved and patients get effective results with that. Following outcomes are expected upon implementation of proposed intervention therapy.
1. Improved strength and range of motion in CVA patients due to proposed intervention.
2. Decrease in falling rate of cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patients under rehabilitation care over the specified period (3 – 6 months).
3. Improved nurse knowledge as they will be trained in patient centric fall prevention intervention like physical therapy and occupational therapy.
4. It is also expected that rehabilitation center will adopt the new intervention therapy instead of the standard care.
Data Collection Tools
The goal of the project is to compare falling rate of CVA patient in the intervention group (implementation of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy exercise Programs daily with Range of Motion Every shift) to the falling rate of CVA patients getting standard care.
