To plan and execute a project, a methodology plays a vital role in defining how to go ahead 
with the project. A methodology defines a broader system of principles/ rules that are derived 
from certain specific methods and procedures that are used to execute or solve problems 
defined within a particular scope. Methodology is basically the set of practices followed in 
executing a project. 
There are various methodologies followed in executing the project. Choosing the right one 
plays an important role to cater to the standard metrics defined. The choice of methodology 
purely depends on the following parameters: 
 Cost 
 Scope definition 
 Client specifications 
 Understanding/ Knowledge of the system to be built/ developed 
 Timeliness 
 The technology/ platform used 
Based on the parameters defined above, the various methodologies are used to execute the 
project. The major methodologies may include the Project Management Body of Knowledge 
(PMBOK), Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), PRINCE 2, Agile and Waterfall. This
