Introduction
Good Morning ladies and gentlemen. I am Elisa Rijal one of the master nursing graduates presenting today. I would like to welcome everyone to the conference as well as thank you for making your valuable time for my presentation. I feel honoured to be given the chance to present a very important topic in relation to aged care today and that is homelessness in the older population in Australia. Homelessness as such is a growing problem in our country. However, when homelessness is coupled with the problem of older people and their care, it becomes an even greater problem and this problem is growing.
Homelessness can be described as a situation in which a person doesn’t have a suitable accommodation or place to stay. This may include staying in a dwelling that is not fit for habitation, like a place without basic amenities. It may also include staying in a place without tenure or with a short unextendible tenure. It may also include staying in a place that does not give a person control or facility. Studies show that one in 6, that is about 16% of all homeless people were older people, constituting about 18.600 people.
