DISCUSSION

Leadership can be defined as the power to influence people and getting work done in an
efficient manner (Armstrong, 2012); there are two major types of leadership styles that can be
applied by leaders for getting work done that include autocratic leadership and democratic
leadership. Autocratic leader act like a dictator and have control overall all decisions,
subordinates are communicated about the work to be done (Hunter, 2007). On contrary to this
is the democratic style of leadership which can be defined as participative leadership that
provides freedom to its subordinate, it encourage autonomy and responsibility in the
organization; two way communication take pace and leader act like a mentor (Armstrong,
2012).
The implementation of autocratic and democratic leadership depends on the type of team
managed in the healthcare organization. the type of leadership style is highly dependent on
the type of relationship that exists between the leader and his subordinates (Scutchfield &
Keck, 2003); this can be evaluated with the help of various models such as path goal theory
