1. Why do you think one neighborhood or city has more crime than another?
It has been seen that all cities do not map the same level or types of crime. Every neighborhood
exhibits different crime patters, this could be due to environmental factors mostly. It has been
seen that those neighborhoods which are crime ridden have always been so. Historical crime
ates have always been the same for same types of crime in same neighborhoods. The level of
freedom that crime sheeters get in certain neighborhoods determines their operations and
occu
ence of crimes. In those neighborhoods where law and order are a little lax or where the
police are co
upt, then crimes occur. Such patterns settle down and criminals find it easy to
operate from that neighborhood. So law and order, tough police officers and residents of a
locality all determine the rate of crimes from neighborhood to neighborhood.
Hence the environment in which people live determines the rate of crimes. It has also been seen
that the occu
ences of crime generally set with the history of the place. For example New York
has very high rates of crimes and only in certain districts. This can be attributed to the fact that
