Geriatrics are related to the people who are elder in terms of age. This
anch is specifically related to their healthcare system. Now, as the name suggests already, fall prevention is an issue that takes place when an older person accidentally falls down. Falling down accidentally is very common in older person and have severe consequences. Fall prevention is thus an issue that is taken care of by the department of Geriatrics that mainly focusses on preventing accidental falls by implementing various methods. Injuries caused due to accidental falls are one of the most serious medical problems that takes place among older people. Some statistics, as mentioned by Ren and Peng, (2019) even show that nearly one third of the total people who are older in age, accidentally fall down because of some reasons at least one time in a year, while half of that one third older people fall more than one time in a year.
Reasons for Fall:
Every action has a cause. Falling accidentally when someone grows old also has its reasons. Some of the reasons are:
Balancing problems:
Maintaining balance while you grow old becomes very difficult. As you age, your system will grow weak as well. But the wait remains same in most of the older men and women. Hence handling a body with same weight but weaker strength becomes very difficult and hence some people loose balance and fall down.
Poor Vision:
Each part of our body or our organs have an expiration date. Once that expiration date ends, we will start noticing changes, especially the negative ones, in our body. Expiration date for each organ varies from person to person. But, mostly, people start losing their eyesight when they age. Cataracts and many other problems related to the eye start arising. In the way to lose their vision, they may not even see things that are bouncy or small, kept near you, Now imagine they are walking from one room to another and they did not see an object placed on the way. They are most likely to trip over it.
