Addresses some elements of performance evidence and
knowledge evidence as shown in the Assessment Matrix
Description:

These activities are being given as formative assessment tasks that will need to be completed during the training
sessions.

The traine
assessor will schedule these tasks according to lesson plans and advise the students accordingly.

Task1: Prepare and Install Medium Enterprise WAN Links

ALTEC has a rack of CISCO routers that need to have serial caballing installed. Following OHS rules and ALTEC
procedures, you are to gain access to the rack so that you can install and test serial cables between a pair of routers
selected for you.

â–ª Discuss with your trainer and clarify your task
â–ª Access to any tools and cables that you might need
â–ª Agreement with the trainer about the method you would use to console into the router for post cabling
testing

Task2: OHS and Test Report

Based on your classroom learning and research, prepare a report that includes:

â–ª A list of OHS considerations that may apply to the tasks; In particular quote the testing tag information that
shows when the rack was last tested and approved by a licensed technician
â–ª A summary of what ALTEC procedures you followed to secure access to the room that houses the rack of
outers. Include the name(s) of ALTEC staff you saw and details of the conversation
â–ª A step by step account of how you cabled and tested the serial connections
â–ª A URL of a website that sells CISCO serial cables
â–ª A
ief description of the type of serial cable chosen, why you chose this type of cable, and the cable
specifications
â–ª A VISIO diagram or equivalent that shows two routers, the router platform (e.g. CISCO 2600XM), the port
numbering (e.g. serial 0/2/0) of the two connected ports, the router serial numbers, and the IP addresses
that will be applied to the serial

â–ª Accessed and obtained the required tools and resources
â–ª Identified the right equipment
â–ª Followed the given instructions and established methods for caballing
â–ª Researched and documented cable specifications
â–ª Described the reasons for using the given cable
â–ª Prepared a VISIO diagram showing router platform and serial routers with port numbers and IP addresses
â–ª Connected the given routers according to the diagram
â–ª Routers are serially connected with secured cables and tags
â–ª Connections are tested using physical connections, network activity, IP address, and pinging
â–ª Prepared a report describing step-by-step process for connecting and testing routers
â–ª Outlined OHS requirements for the task
Submission Guidelines

These are practical tasks and must be completed in presence of an assessor on the designated sessions.
Assessments will be marked by observation; Assessor is satisfied that all the tasks are completed as required.
Submit the Word-processed report for marking using an assignment cover sheet.

Description:
This is a scenario based task. In this practical task, you will be configuring two WAN protocols, HDLC and PPP on the
given network.
Assume that you work for a training company that has two LANs in different sites that need to be connected using a
asic HDLC serial connection. Before ca
ying out the task, you will simulate the activity using a lab rack of testing
equipment or using a Packet Trace Topology.
â–ª Discuss and clarify the task with the trainer
â–ª In particular, decide whether the task will be done using access to CISCI routers or using Packet Tracers
â–ª Access to a guide on Cabling a Network and Basic Router
Also, in a separate word document;
â–ª Research and describe different methods for connecting to a wide area network (WAN)
â–ª Describe asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology
