Develop an essay focusing on the following:
· Janice is studying nursing at university and is keen to work in the Intensive Care Unit after she graduates. In her view, this will be an exciting and varied job that will allow her to really make a difference for people who are acutely unwell.
· Samprit is studying nursing too and wishes to work in the Emergency Department where he intends to use quick thinking and fast action to save lives.
· Neither Janice, nor Samprit can see the relevance in learning about caring for a person with a lived experience of mental illness, mental health recovery, consumer and carer centred approaches or even the most common mental health disorders. In their view, they do not want to waste time on the occasional ‘madman’ or ‘drunk’ who may cross their path. Since they don’t want to pursue a career in mental health nursing they don’t understand why they should learn about it in their program of study.
Required discussion points for the essay:
Consider the points of view of Janice and Samprit.
1. •Discuss why it is important for the two students to have knowledge about mental health and mental illness in light of the high levels of people with a como
idity of both physical and mental health issues and how one can impact the other.
2. •Discuss why is it important for all nurses such as Janice & Samprit to understand the recovery model of care utilised by mental health services to enhance their practice?
3. •Discuss the importance of a mental state examination when undertaking a comprehensive assessment of a person in order to prioritise delivery of care.
4. Discuss the steps Janice and Samprit should take to engage with and support a person with mental health needs in a hospital environment, for example in the Emergency Department, or on a busy medical ward, to ensure all their needs are met?

Introduction
Mental illness and mental health are two distinct and most neglected concepts within the society. It would be essential to consider that mental health is the psychological wellbeing of an individual or absence of mental issues; however, mental health can be affected by many su
ounding factors. Mental health is often confused with mental illness and it is essential for nurses as well as doctors to understand the mental health of their patient followed by their physical conditions.
This essay would emphasise upon the importance of studying mental health and illness for Janice and Samprit in clinical environment. Likewise, efforts would be made to present importance of mental health recovery model for improving Janice and Samprit’s practice. This essay would conclude with steps, which Janice and Samprit could follow in order to engage and support patients with mental illness within clinical environment (Fernando, et al., 2017, pp. 186-193).
Physical and Mental Health Issues
Mental health and physical health are two distinct concepts because clear distinction can be made between mind and body, respectively. However, it would be essential to understand that physical and mental health is fundamentally linked. Human mind controls every function of body; therefore, poor mental health would affect the physical health of individuals. Likewise, the symptoms of illness or sickness might be physically visible; however, the actual cause could be mental issues; therefore, it would be essential for Janice and Samprit to understand concepts and aspects of mental health as well as mental illness (Nishanth et al., 2017, p. 281).
1. Importance of Mental Health and Mental Illness in Understanding Como
idity
As presented above also, mental health and physical health are fundamentally linked. One of the major areas, which could be presented to support this link, is ‘longevity. The authors presented that individuals with mental health issues such as schizophrenia or depression have been reported to live for a much shorter lifespan compared to individuals without any mental illness (Fernando, et al., 2017, pp. 186-193). Further, as supported by the authors, individuals suffering from schizophrenia have been associated with tripled risk of dying from either cardiovascular disease or respiratory disease (Nishanth et al., 2017, p. 281). Therefore, it is evident that mental health foster physical como
idities.
Cardiovascular and respiratory issues exists majorly because mental health of those patients remains undiagnosed and mental health conditions are less likely to be diagnosed compared to physical health issues (Monteleone et al., 2019, p. 842). Individuals suffering from depression have been reported to suffer from physical issues such as hypertension, high cholesterol, heart issues and much more. Therefore, it becomes essential for new nurses like Janice and Samprit to have a better understanding of mental health and mental health issues and como
id physical issues associated with mental illness.
Moreover, physical factors can also affect mental health such as lack of proper diet can influence the development of Alzheimer’s, depression and other mental health conditions. Further, other physical factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption directly affect the nervous system of individuals; thus, fostering the development of mental health issues. Likewise, lack of physical activity, social discrimination, incidents and much more can also lead to the development of mental health issues and it becomes essential for Janice and Samprit to understand the co
elation (Field & Reed, 2016, p. 3).
2. Importance of Recovery Model of Care in Enhancing Care Practice
Recovery Model of Care is one of the most popular as well as effective care models. This is majorly because recovery model of care is based upon holistic and person-centred approach while providing care to individuals suffering from mental health issues. Further, the authors presented that knowledge of the basic tenets of this model could facilitate the care delivery for individuals suffering from mental health condition (Field & Reed, 2016, p. 4). The Recovery Model of Care is based upon two major premises that is ‘recovery from mental illness is possible’ along with...
