Assignment 1: Creating a Webpage from a Template and Using
Placeholder Text
Problem: You work for a local but rapidly growing gardening supply company that specializes in
products to support food self-sufficiency. The company has identified a small number of extremely
successful products that they want to market through a website and have hired you to get started. Create
the webpage shown in Figure 1–53b that identities the type of content you want to include on the
company’s home page. In later chapters, you will replace the placeholders with actual text and images.
Instructions: Perform the following tasks:
1. If you created the template01.html _le in the Apply Your Knowledge exercise in this chapter,
open template01.html and then save it with the name cityfarmer.html in the chapter01\
lab1 folder provided with the Data Files for Students.
If you did not create the template01.html _le, enter the required HTML tags as shown in
Figure 1–53a and then save the _le with the name cityfarmer.html in the chapter01\
lab1 folder provided with the Data Files for Students.
2. Enter the text City Farmer Home Page within the

3. Within the body section, add the following content using six sets of paragraph tags. At this
point, the content consists of six placeholder paragraphs that you will replace with actual
webpage content in a later chapter.

4. Add an tag after each of the closing paragraph tags to insert a horizontal line after each
paragraph.
5. Indent the code and content within the head and body sections to make each section distinct
and readable.
6. Add a comment after the opening statement that contains your name and
the cu
ent date.
7. Check the spelling of the text within the title and body tags, as shown in Figure 1–53a.
8. Save the page and then open it in a
owser, as shown in Figure 1–53b.
9. Submit your assignment in the format speci_ed by your instructor.
10. The term placeholder refers to any area of a webpage that you want to reserve for a particula
purpose. A webpage developer will often use text or image placeholders when designing
webpages, especially if actual content is not yet available. Using your favorite search engine,
search to _nd three different reasons to use webpage placeholders.
