Question 2:
Refer to the cu
ent ASUM guidelines, policies, and statements via the link provided in the policies section of this module. (http:
www.asum.com.au/standards-of-practice/)
Read through ALL of these documents, so that you become familiar with the scope of sonographic practice within Australia.
Select one of these documents to discuss:
· Make note of the date of the most recent revision.
· Provide a
ief summary of your selected document.
· A lot of these documents are not referenced in regards to the evidence base or overarching policy behind the recommendations made by ASUM.  Have a go at finding the relevant Government health policy, MBS policy, or evidence base for a scanning protocol, and provide a link to the website or document. (give an overview of what the document is about)
*ASUM – guidelines, policies, and statements - http:
www.asum.com.au/standards-of-practice
National health policies and guidelines can be viewed under the ‘Resources' tab on the Department of Health website -https:
www.health.gov.au
Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) for Ultrasound services –http:
www9.health.gov.au/mbs/fullDisplay.cfm?type=note&q=IN.0.15&qt=noteID&criteria=ultrasound
**Please select Abdominal from ASUM standards of practice because it is easier.
This is a hint from the course tutor – “Basically many sonography protocols are not evidence or policy based. What I want to highlight here is that many of them are based on expert opinion only and really should have an evidence base to it. What I want you to do if see if you can find a relevant Government health policy, MBS policy, or evidence base for the specific scanning protocol that you have chosen, and provide a link to the website or document. So yes, this may be from the reference list or by searching for it yourself - google sometimes helps :)”

Question 1:
· Did you feel the staff induction and training program were adequate or inadequate and why?
When I started my cu
ent job at a private practice as a radiographer about three months ago, the Branch Operations Manager (BOM) showed me the place and introduced me to the team on my 1st day. I did not get any training for the RIS and PACS system as I was using them at the previous work. I was provided with essential items with
ief explanation along with the information that, I would have an induction on my 2nd week. Then I started working straight away.
I had staff induction with other new staff at the head office by HR managers within 10 days after my 1st day at work. I found the induction time unpractical when it is supposed to be during my 1st day of work. The staff induction ran by HR was adequate and the company handbook I was given had important information I need. On the other hand, the induction and training provided at the
anch by BOM was inadequate. I noticed few things, which were not explained to me and this occu
ed every day. I was expected to figure them out by myself even though the
anch was not busy. The induction was not well organised as the
anch was new. ‘A well-prepared and comprehensive induction program helps staff quickly understand the responsibilities of their new role and your expectations of them’ (Business Queensland 2016).
