Contributing Factors of Obesity in African American women
As far as obesity is concerned, the African American women are much more obese than 
any other category of people out here. It is estimated that forty percentage of African 
Americans overall suffered more deaths a year compared to Caucasians.{Treadwell H 
(2010)} Even the proportion of obesity of African American women is much more than 
the African American males. While the 60 percent of total African American males are 
obese, the ratio in females is around seventy eight percent. This makes the a strange 
conclusion that around four of 5 women are overweight. {Judd, C. M. , Park, N., Ryan, C. S., 
Brauer, M., & Kraus, S. (1995)} This paper is constructed to analyze the deep rooted 
problem of obesity in African American women. We will consider various possible 
causes for the same.
The first and the foremost cause can be the genes. But do genes add to out weight? If 
not, they surely do something, maybe indirectly to add to our weight. African American 
women are that section of people in the world that is somewhere affected by genes. 
Very interestingly, It is found that here, genes has grown the drive for these women to 
overeat. { Dejong, W. (1980)}.Not only this, the genes are also responsible in physical 
inactiveness of these women. Further these women are unable to use these fats as 
dietary food because of their genes. And lastly though, a lot of people in such 
developed countries eat a lot with almost no physical work, but the major victims of the 
obesity are the African American women.
