Long term care is a kind of service which helps the people to meet their medical and non 
medical needs especially for the individuals who cannot care for themselves, have severe 
disability in long run. The staffs help the individuals to perform the daily routine tasks like 
dressing up, bathing and eating. However, the long term care involves medical treatments and 
care and requires skills and deft practioners in order to address the multiple chronic diseases 
associated with elder people. Long term care can be provided at community, home and 
assisted living. Long term may be needed by any age of people but generally is it more 
common in senior citizens. 
Assisted living on the other hand is identifies the standards and arrangements for the 
local assisted facilities. It supports the individual who suffers from disability and are 
advanced to age are encouraged to live with some degree of respect and independence. The 
activities included in assisted living includes the supervision without breaching residents’ 
privacy, helping with the daily routine activities, organizing social events and gathering in 
controlled manner and helping in healthcare services. The services provided at assisted living 
include both skilled and unskilled care. Unskilled care includes the routine activities whereas 
skilled care includes the staff members who are particularly trained in significant activities 
like medication, information about healthcare and providing medical treatments. 
The issue discussed in this paper is about the role of inadequate trained staff for 
assisted living for long care.
