1. a. Explain and provide examples of how you could provide opportunities for children to plan/ or modify these indoor and outdoor environments?
The outdoor and indoor areas will be placed based on the interest of the students. First, we need to identify the interests of the students based on their choices. Find out whether they are interested in indoor activities or outside physical activities. Students will be asked to provide basic proposals on their plans and share it with the in class. This will boost their individual confidence level as well as provide an opportunity for others to give suggestions creating an open platform to share ideas. Then we will allow them to modify the areas based on their interest. They can put up suggestions to change the play stations, or creativity section, add on new materials depending on their interest, include new games and toys, that can be played in groups or individually, arts and crafts material like paints, chalk boards or crayons or other supplies they want under the supervision of an adult teacher. Children will also be able to have the freedom to add or modify according to their own needs which will be allowed in the classroom. Separate faculty will be placed to supervise the outdoor activities. Children will make decisions on their own to help modify the outdoor environment, which will be supported by the administration. Swings, see-saw and other equipment like those required to perform gymnastics,or any other outdoor games will be placed accordingly to provide freedom to pursue their interest. Model playground along with surveillance would help to provide the children to fulfill their ideas and will help them in future. Decision making is a process that helps development of the cere
al cortex. Young minds are filled with novel ideas which should be nurtured with care and caution thereby help them to make decisions in near future.

1. Outdoor Nature Section: Learning is not confined inside four walls of a classroom. The outdoor nature section will have vi
ant chairs and tables placed under a shade su
ounded by nature, where a student can learn about the environment and basic scientific concepts being su
ounded by things they can observe. I will be present with them to explain the different aspects of nature that they might find interesting and answer all their questions. They will be taught about basics of planning and gardening as having a hands on experience on anything increases the interest by miles. Furthermore, they will have a bonding with the place they created with their own hands and enjoy themselves.
2. Indoor social hub: Round tables consisting of chairs and tables where the students will be encouraged to share about their thoughts and feelings. This will promote more communication and social activities between them. They will be encouraged to talk about what they learn in class, their ho
ies or their interests. They will be free to talk and play with their peers about anything they want under adult guidance. This will remove the fear of public speaking when they grow up and prepare them for group discussions , I will be patient and the classroom environment would provide an ambiance to help them overcome their fear.
3. Art and Craft Section: Containing all the painting supplies. This can be indoor or outdoor based on the preference of the student, ofcourse under supervision and guidance. Students will be encouraged to express their thoughts using paints. Art and craft will help stimulate their creative side and help the children express their thoughts. They will be happy in expressing these thoughts to their peers and teachers. Legos, play-doh or mechanix and other toys will be present to give shape and structure to the ideas.
c. If children found a caterpillar or lady bettle and became very interested in insects. What changes could you make to the indoor and outdoor play areas to support these interests?
Interest in nature and insects are quite common among the students. In such a case, I would encourage the students to read and find out more about the insect that they liked I would accompany them to the li
ary and search through the books that have information about the insects. They will be asked to prepare colorful paintings and charts, describing the insect they recently discovered which will be put up in the walls. If they want to find others as well, they will be asked to observe the park or playground carefully to find other insects. I would ask them to list all the interesting things that they have found about the insect. If possible I would also like to install a pet area where they could monitor the growth of the insect, like a caterpillar tank or an ant farm. Students can learn about their life cycle and the biological aspects by visualizing the organisms which I think would be really fascinating for young minds. This interest can be nurtured by allowing them to freely learn about the animal kingdom and natural beings that they see around themselves on a daily basis.
2. a. What are examples of interests that children may have that could influence the design of the learning environment. Give 3 examples.
Students can be interested in a lot of other activities besides learning in a classroom. Some interest could be:
· Music: Students interested in music would be encouraged to present a song or play an instrument of their choice. This would promote freedom of speech and boost their moral and confidence. The ones who are not interested in music might also find the performance stimulating. Stage fright can also be tackled with during this phase of development and providing this opportunity
· Dance: Similarly students interested in dance would be encouraged to present something or put up a recital or even tell the class about their interest and passion. The ones who are not interested in dancing might also find the performance stimulating and might pick it up as well.
· Literature: Many students can be interested in reading stories. They can read their favorite story out loud to the class; encourage their friends to be included in the retelling. They could compose their own stories and the class would have a storytelling session promoting learning about literature, authors and their works. Story telling improves speech, boosts confidence as well as increase vocabulary and thinking.
